We know that Square Enix is working on Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC , but beyond that, we have little details about it or what it may entail. Fans of the quirky action-RPG franchise may get some answers about Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC at Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference on June 10, as E3 seems like the perfect opportunity to reveal what’s next for the game. Here’s hoping the story DLC answers some lingering questions Kingdom Hearts fans may have after finishing the latest game in the ser
Last year, it was leaked that a UK studio was working on a new Fable game , and then it leaked that Forza Horizon developer Playground Games was handling the project. Some expected to see the new Fable at E3 2018, and while we did get a brief hint at its existence, the game still has yet to be officially announced. If a leaked Microsoft E3 2019 press conference rundown is any indication, the new Fable will finally be announced at E3 2019 during Microsoft’s press conference, where it will be revealed to be a reboot instead of Fable 4 . Rumors also claim that the next Fable will be coming to the next-gen Xbox instead of Xbox One, so it could very well be one of the first next-gen games that we
When I say this game aspires to be Paper Mario , I’m not talking about a few little touches here and there. From the second you load up Bug Fables, you will know that this is a Paper Mario game in practically every way except the name. Each character is a flat 2D model with big fat black outlines walking around a 3D world. The art style looks simplistic, as if it was drawn by a crayon-wielding kindergarten class, yet it’s bursting with life and personality. Even the music evokes the soundtracks of Nintendo’s games, with songs that reminded me of Final Fantasy games, Donkey Kong Country , Earthbound , and of course, the Paper Mario ser
Bug Fables is weaponized nostalgia. Moonsprout Games set out to make a game that would bring you back to the mid-90s and early-2000s, and if you played RPGs back on the SNES or N64, then this is going to unleash all the tingly feelings of your childhood stored at the back of your br
When the original Fable was in development, the game’s director Peter Molyneux talked about his plans for the game, which at the time was codenamed Project Ego. The main idea was that players would pick up the controller on a 15-year-old whose parents were killed, and in a journey of revenge, players would guide their avatar through an RPG experience shaping their avatar from a teenager to an adult with total freedom of their path. Their avatar would grow up along with the world—there was a famous example that players could plant an acorn as a child and then see it grow into a tree by adulthood—and eventually have to save the entire world on their journey. It was a lifelong pursuit, with players raising up a character from childhood all the way to old
Bethesda gave fans a pair of pre-E3 surprises when it announced Rage 2 , which was previously leaked by Walmart, as well as Fallout 76 . Bethesda will pull the curtain back on Fallout 76 at its E3 2018 press conference, where it should address rumors that the game will be an online multiplayer survival ti
With the arrival of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X right around the corner, thousands of fans are incredibly excited to see what major new games will be hitting both consoles when they finally make their way to shelves later this year. Geoff Keighley’s heavily-hyped Summer Game Fest seems to be the catalyst for both Sony and Microsoft to show off exactly what early-adopters will be able to play on next-generation hardware too, with Xbox announcing it will have a first-party heavy showcase in July and rumors claiming PlayStation will follow suit. And when Xbox takes the stage, Fable 4 needs to lead the
Xbox has shown that a freedom-driven, open-world experience can be accomplished with its first-party Adventure game story guide Sea of Thieves from developer Rare (another UK-based studio like Playground Games, by the way). While Sea of Thieves had its own ups and downs, Rare successfully reinvented the game. Again, not that a next-gen Fable should copy Sea of Thieves , but hopefully learnings (and maybe even technology) from that game could be shared between Xbox’s studios to influence Fable in a way that gives players that sense of freedom and helps the game achieve the grand RPG path that was originally envisioned with Project
While the story itself isn’t breaking any new ground, the world that Bug Fables takes place in is incredibly charming. The three characters grow on you as the game progresses, and while the dialogue isn’t exactly hilarious, it’s amusing, well-written, full of bug-related puns, and walks the fine line between straight-laced fantasy and fourth-wall-breaking humor. It takes a little while for the plot to get rolling, but once it picks up, it becomes an excellent throwback to RPG narratives of the 16 and 32-bit
This will especially be the case if you’re a fan of the first Paper Mario game or its sequel Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door . Bug Fables does everything in its power to be a spiritual successor to those games, and it comes insanely close to being a complete succ
